Welcome to a new look paulicio.us!
I started by asking myself one question: “Why should the user have to navigate away from content, to view more content?”. With that in mind, I set about created an entirely new web-based interface, expanding users expectations of what can be achieved using today’s technology. Effort was made to allow the user to enjoy a ’single-page’ experience, with all content being loaded dynamically in the current page. As a result, there are no actions on the site that require page reloading! Of course loading a lot of content onto one page can make it cluttered, so a content management system must be used, cue the obvious choice to design and built a desktop-style interface with windows, icons, and a ‘taskbar’. Short of maintaining the current content, every aspect of the site has been redesigned to reflect this decision.
Navigation is slightly differently than the user might perhaps be used to from a website, however the interface structure closely mimics that of probably the most frequently used interface - the desktop, regardless of your operating system, the thought process is the same. If you treat the website as such, it soon becomes a joy to use. Any combination of content can be viewed simultaneously, as would be possible on your own desktop. Video can be playing whilst you read and comment on an interesting article just right to it’s side, a list of all articles in a category can be accessed whilst checking the most recent comments just by hover over the taskbar.
For more of an insight into using the second version of paulicio.us, check out the introduction video, the icon is right there on the desktop!
v2 is in fully working, but early stages, below is a short list of features:
- All content loaded inline, dynamically
- Ability to open, move, minimize and close windows
- Taskbar shows open and minimized windows
- Taskbar shows recent comments for open and minimized windows
- Real time comment posting
- Automatic comment author recognition
- Support for many media types (currently single images and Vimeo video implemented)
Coming soon:
- Automatic saving of page layout, carry on just as you left off when you come back!
- Support for additional media types (Youtube, photo albums etc)
- Real time notification of new posts and comments

just beatifull.
hope it would be done soon.
P.S. can you activate email subscription on feedburner ?
hi there. v2 looks like a great package. I’m an artist and a friend of mine are doing a collaborative installation and performance and v2 would be a great theme for our project. I don’t suppose you’d be willing to license it for non-profit art use? I could guarantee or sign any contract necessary to not give away the code if you so require. If you could send an email my way I can be more elaborate about our project. I wouldn’t require any support or help, and I’d be more than happy to link to your site - our audience are very tech-savvy and would probably be keen on your services.
thanks for your time and efforts.

Hi William,
I use jQuery’s livequery plugin (http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/livequery) to manage dynamically added HTML. So as nearly everything is dynamically loaded on the site, I just make sure they all use the livequery function to bind events automatically. It’s really easy to manage that way.
You should also be able use that with dynamically loaded JS, although currently I load all the JS in one file on the home page, which as you mention, can get quite large, but mine’s an acceptable size after minifying etc
Thanks both for your kind words, at the moment it’s not available to download Dan, mainly because behind the scenes it’s a bit sketchy
But I am developing a public version at the moment which I will release in the future.
Very nice. I’m trying sort of the same thing. Your desktop thing is very unique. I’m assuming you are using javascript or jQuery. I’m using jQuery and some of the problems I’m having is surrounding when I load a page any javascript that is based on a selector does not see the dynamically added html. I did find the .live method in jquery and that did solve of of the problems. But, if my site gets very large, the js that is on the ‘default’page can get very large. I would like to be able to load the js that is related to the dynamically added page. is this possible?
Any way, great site. I believe this is the future of the web. My goal is to eliminate postbacks.
WOW! VERY impressive site you have here. I’m not a potential employer - sorry to get your hopes up. I just wanted to commend you on your layout and such!
And this is a *lightly* modified version of Wordpress? I don’t suppose it’s open source and available for download?
I’m still new at the whole web design thing, but your page was unique and caught my attention.
Anyway, keep up the terrific designing! And good luck to you!
